Austin Youth Basketball is proud to sponsor the Trip To Drip 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. The tournament benefits the Dripping Springs Fun For Kids Foundation (http://www NULL.dskidsfunfoundation NULL.org/). This organization has done a great job supporting some of the kids who have made it thru our basketball camps and academies. Their mission is to provide financial assistance to children in the Dripping Springs Community who would otherwise be unable to participate in extracurricular activities (ex: DSYSA, DSISD Community Education, music lessons, dance classes, etc.) due to financial constraints. Our goal is to help not only low-income families, but also children whose families are temporarily working through financial constraints due to situations such as serious illness, job loss, or divorce.
Basically, they manage the process of helping families and organizations like ours split the “scholarship” between DS Fun for Kids, the family, and us… thereby greatly reducing the cost of sports for a family that might have hit tight times.
DS Fun For Kids has a great relationship with Dripping Springs Youth Sports Association (http://www NULL.dsysa NULL.org/) who is helping put the tournament on and we all know how highly I think of this group. In fact, let me use this sounding board to thank all the great parent coaches, referees, DSYSA leadership, John Johnson, wonderful parents, opposing players, and especially OUR HOOSIERS TEAM (Ellie, Alli, Lucy, Ainsley, Lesia, Kaitlyn, Reid, Leah & Coach Swaggy) for a spectacular basketball season. As a professional basketball trainer I get to see many things that are wrong in youth sports (including me on bad days,) but I saw so many wonderful things every Basketball Saturday.
More importantly, this Trip To Drip basketball tournament went off last year and we heard what a great time it was from all the kids. Three on Three is a great teaching tool that we often use in our training to teach:
- Movement without the ball
- Cutting to the basket
- Eyes up play
- Defensive accountability
- Communication
- Encourages Dribble Drive
- Increased involvement to reduce “wallflowering.”
