Austin Basketball Training – Personalized To You
You have been to basketball teams that supposedly “stress the fundamentals.” You have tried the weekly factory training where you bust your tail running thru drills and yet you don’t actually improve. You show up 15 minutes before practice and work hard. You buy dvds. And yet, your improvement is not where you need it or want it. Your confidence both on and off the court is not where you would like it. You (and your family) have spent 12 hours per weekend at the basketball tournament only to take a total of 10 shots.
You have big dreams but you are surrounded by people who tell you why you will fail. You are stuck in a social pecking order of who gets to be aggressive on offense and everyone else falls in line. You are 6’4 center who needs guard skills yet you have a defined role at your school.
You dare to dream about college basketball as your future, but you don’t dare share that dream for fear of failure. Not only do you fear failure sometimes, but you also fear success, because it might make you standout and leave the pack. Secretly, you want expert help, inspiration and accountability for your crazy dream because you know that going all in makes you a winner no matter what the results.
Your middle school coach did not know how to teach shooting form, and your high school coach does not have time to teach it. Perhaps you just wish you could get advice from someone who had been there, done that.
Thru all the basketball, you realize that every time you make a mistake everyone around you is a critic and you now try to play in a way to minimize mistakes and ensuing criticism rather than to play the game aggressively and get buckets.
You know the read and react, the high screen and roll, the 4 out offense and yet you don’t have the individual skills needed to excel in those systems.
Despite these obstacles, you still love the game. You love it passionately and are open to coaching and change if it comes from experts. You have reached the point where you are ready to take off and go all in.
If this describes you … you (or your family) deserve to come down for a personalized training session and find out about the science of player development and skill building.
Passion | Purpose | Power
Here are some of the hallmarks of our program:
Passion in Basketball Training
Our game of basketball is a passionate one. Played at the highest levels it is inherently a social game where drive and chemistry with teammates fuel success both on and off the court. We are not a fit for you if you don’t have passion for the game. There are plenty of other programs that will accommodate you, but our program won’t serve you well. Players come here with passion for the game… and that only grows exponentially as you train with Austin Youth Basketball.
Failure Encouraged Environment. Nobody wants to tell you this, but you only grow thru failure. You don’t grow from success. If you already are expert at something, you are going to be challenged here. Establishing a growth mindset is a critical life skill and we can help you develop this on and off the court. To be truly passionate, you need to overcome the fear of failure… you need to embrace it.
Small Group Training – so we can try new skills under pressure and at a rate of intensity that positive peer pressure helps. Expert instructor to student ratio usually at 1:4 or less. This way we catch you doing things right to reinforce that moment. We can support you as you struggle. And when you struggle, theAnd we hold you accountable with expert feedback so you can accelerate rather than fitting in. Private training is available but we highly recommend you work on moves with defense after we explain the how & why, demonstrate, then let you try at 50% speed then 100% speed. Your training partners help drive your passion and this energy is contagious.
Purpose In Austin Basketball Training
Have you known the specific purpose of your last basketball practice, workout, or driveway session?
Have you questioned the expertise of a well intentioned coach that never played the game at a high level? (Rest easy, all of our instructors played a minimum of collegiate basketball… some with pro experience. Collegiate playing experience places you in the top 1% of basketball players in the nation so you can embrace learning with the assurance you selected an expert.) Do you think you deserve expertise that is passionate about teaching and investing in your game? Our Austin basketball training program delivers.
Focus on Process Over Performance. Players often worry about whether the ball goes in or not when they go thru a shooting drill. While they focus on swish or clank, they don’t focus on footwork, legs, hand position, and follow thru. Great shooters and great performers in life obsess about process and are patient for performance. Do you shy away from a strict defensive stance because you might fail and look foolish? We encourage you to stay on purpose and develop that skill and not care that you get beat. Do that often enough and you will be doling out the beating with your defensive pressure.
Are you spending 12 hours per week in basketball practices and not seeing significant gains? Defining, delivering and practicing purpose based training is a hallmark of Austin Youth Basketball. Personal and player development hinges upon leading yourself and those around you with a sense of purpose… on and off the court.
Power in Austin Basketball Training
Have you played power basketball? Have you dared to play and live a life of power on and off the court?
Yes, we know you have a million basketball weaknesses. The culture of basketball coaches is always to talk about weaknesses rather than strengths. That is how they were coached.
You are young and our game is one of mistakes. NBA Hall of Famers typically miss more shots than they make. Take your basketball strengths and magnify them. Attack the rim without fear. Put dents in the floor with your dribble. Dare to break the press rather than survive it. Learn to draw two players and dish. Learn that confidence comes from within, not from your coach. Imagine hearing instruction, not criticism because you believe in yourself! Imagine a life where you stopped caring about all the critics and focused on building the best player you can be. A skillset and mindset of POWER… on and off the basketball court. We teach players to PLAY PRESENT. Not to worry about their last miss or the reaction if they miss their next shot. Stay in the moment. Our players inspire confidence in their coaches and stop using them as scapegoats.

Austin Basketball Training Curriculum
We could go on for hours what we cover but at the most basic level we focus on offensive skills, basketball shooting coaching, ball handling that leads to buckets, passing skills from point guards, post play for big men, point guard training, and wing play. We believe that nearly every player should have a well rounded game. We believe in the scientific approach of player development. The same way I trained and played with NBA players for many summers. We believe in reaching out to coaches if families agree in an effort to understand the player’s journey, role, and vision. Understanding a team’s offensive system helps us to understand what individual skills the player needs to excel. We do teach defense and rebounding. We believe there is only one ball and that great defensive players can earn playing time even thru an abysmal shooting slump.
