<p>Austin Youth Basketball is pleased to announce that <a href="http://www.edwinabrown.com" title="Edwina Brown Website"   target="_blank" >Edwina Brown </a>will be joining the coaching staff.  Edwina will be the lead instructor of our <a href="https://www.austinyouthbasketball.com/girls-basketball-camp/"   >Girls Summer Camp</a> and will also be available for specialty clinic workouts.</p>
<p>Edwina is returning from the playoffs with her professional team in Israel.  Edwina was recently inducted into the University of Texas Women&#8217;s Hall of Honor and holds many Longhorn basketball records. She was a two time All American and still holds a number of records including: 1705 career points, 517 career assists and 257 career steals.</p>

<p>Edwina Brown was born in Dallas, TX and shortly after moved to Lockhart, TX. As a natural athlete, Edwina grew up playing all sports but excelled in basketball. In her senior year, she was named the Class 4A Player of the Year and was awarded a basketball scholarship to The University of Texas at Austin.</p>

Edwina had four successful seasons at The University of Texas.<br />

&#8211; First-team All Big XII Conference Selection (Junior &amp; Senior Years)<br />
&#8211; 2000 Margaret Wade Trophy Winner (National Player of the Year)<br />
&#8211; 2000 Kodak All-American Team (Top 10 Players in the Nation)<br />
&#8211; 2000 Big XII Conference Tournament MVP<br />
&#8211; 2000 University of Texas Friar Society Award<br />
&#8211; 1999-2000 ESPN.com National Player of the Year<br />
&#8211; 1999 USA Pan American Games Bronze Medalist (Canada)<br />
&#8211; 1998 USA R. Williams Jones Cup Gold Medalist (Taiwan)</p>
<p>Additionally, Edwina still holds a number of UT records including 1,705 career<br />
points, 517 career assists and 257 career steals, and she remains the only<br />
individual in school history to lead the team in scoring, rebounding, assists<br />
and steals in the same year, an accomplishment she achieved in both her<br />
junior and senior years.</p>
<p><strong>Professional Career (2000 &#8211; Present)</strong><br />
As the third overall pick in the 2000 WNBA Draft, Edwina played five years in the WNBA with the Detroit Shock (2000-2002) and Phoenix Mercury (2003-2004) before playing professionally overseas.</p>
<p>Edwina has played internationally in Lebanon, Austria, Spain, France<br />
and most recently in Israel where she is currently playing in the<br />
Israeli Basketball League for the team <a href="http://www.safsal.co.il/eteam.aspx?id=86" title="ASA Jerusalem"   >ASA Jerusalem</a>.</p>

Edwina&#8217;s most recent accolade is her impending induction<br />

Raised by her mother and grandmother in Lockhart, TX, Edwina realizes the importance of an inspirational mentor and started MAP&#8217;D Out to lend a helping hand to youth in the community that exemplify sportsmanship, integrity and the desire to &#8220;map out&#8221; their future goals.
